Bill Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels didn’t play a game last week, but they still made plenty of headlines.
Local affiliate WRAL published an exposé on cultural issues in the program, The Athletic wrote a long-form piece of dysfunction behind the scenes, and Ollie Connolly of The Guardian reported Belichick had already "discussed buyout options with North Carolina’s hierarchy.“ The scrutiny grew so intense that Belichick and athletic director Bubba Cunningham released statements pledging support to each other.
On Monday morning in Chapel Hill, Belichick opened his press conference by slamming the reporting.
“Some of the reports out last week about my looking for a buyout and trying to leave here and all that, it’s just categorically false. There’s zero truth to any of that,”
