One in five European wild bee species is currently in danger of going extinct, a sharp rise in the last ten years, according to a recent analysis.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List reports that at least 172 of the 1,928 wild bee species that have been evaluated are in danger of extinction.

Compared to ten years ago, this indicates that there are more than twice as many species at risk, which has prompted demands for immediate action to change the ‘dire’ situation of these important pollinators.
