A self-identified Katy Perry fan is expressing disappointment over the pop star's recent romantic involvement with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Braiden Palumbo, a 21-year-old from Alberta, was hoping to win Perry's affection after she invited him on stage during her concert in Vancouver this past July.

Palumbo described his feelings about the situation, saying, "To be honest with you, I think he kind of stole my thunder." He had hoped for a more personal connection with Perry, stating, "I actually kinda, sort of was hoping that she would have taken me for dinner, but she didn’t."

Palumbo, who voted Conservative in the last federal election, believes that Perry and Trudeau are not a suitable match. He remarked, "She’s too bubbly and too happy and he’s just too vanilla." He expressed a desire for their relationship to end, saying, "They hopefully do not have a future together."

Despite his political leanings, Palumbo acknowledged some of Trudeau's policies, particularly the legalization of marijuana, but he remains critical of the former prime minister's overall performance. "Absolutely not," he said when asked if he would support Trudeau if he ran for office again.

Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire, separated in 2023 after 18 years of marriage. Perry also ended her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom in July. Palumbo commented on the timing of the new relationship, saying, "I think that’s kind of too soon," and noted the age difference, with Trudeau being 53 and Perry 40.

He speculated that Grégoire might not be pleased with the media attention surrounding Trudeau's new romance, stating, "She’s probably really pissed, and I don’t blame her."

Recent photographs published by a British newspaper show Perry and Trudeau sharing affectionate moments aboard a yacht off the California coast. A tourist who witnessed the scene described how they were seen kissing, noting, "I didn’t realize who she was with until I saw the tattoo on the guy’s arm and I immediately realized it was Justin Trudeau."

The couple had previously sparked dating rumors after being spotted dining together in Montreal in July. A restaurant staff member described them as "lovely" and "very kind and warm with the staff."

Palumbo, who has been a fan of Perry since childhood, reflected on his experience at her concert, where she gave him a maraca and they sang together. He acknowledged that Perry might be the one that got away for him, saying, "Yeah, obviously, with Justin Trudeau."

He expressed curiosity about how Perry and Trudeau managed to keep their relationship under wraps for so long, stating, "Your guess is as good as mine." He speculated that they might now be more open about their relationship, saying, "I think they’re slowly maybe wanting the public to know."

As the media continues to cover the budding romance, Palumbo remains hopeful that it will not last, saying, "Honestly, I hope it doesn’t; I really hope it doesn’t. But if it does, you know what, good for them."
