AUBURN, Ala. (WHNT) -- Auburn will be without one of its captains for the rest of the season
Tigers Head Coach Hugh Freeze confirmed Monday afternoon that running back Damari Alston is no longer with the program.
Freeze said Alston "failed to meet the expectations and standard of our program" and is no longer on the team. He added that the program loves him and wishes him well.
"[Damari Alston] won’t be playing here anymore," Freeze said.
The senior running back has only appeared in four games for the Tigers this season and could receive an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA.
Alston has been a key member of the Auburn program for the last four seasons. He rushed for 809 yards and six touchdowns during his time on the Plains.
Freeze said that freshman Omar Mabson and Alvin Hender
