Officials cite single-lane stretches, locals blame lax control
Srinagar, Oct 13: The two-way restoration of traffic for heavy vehicles on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway has turned into a nightmare for commuters and transporters, with endless traffic jams and mismanagement crippling movement along the vital lifeline that connects the Valley with the rest of the country.
The 250-km highway, which had remained partially blocked since August 26 due to multiple landslides and sinking stretches at Thard Bridge and Balli Nallah in Udhampur and Maroog in Ramban district, was recently reopened for two-way movement by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
