CONCORD, N.H. —

Concord school officials say they're working to fill an unexpected $5 million budget gap.

Pamela Walsh, chair of the Concord School Board, told WMUR they are facing a series of unexpected expenses that hit all at once, and taxpayers could see the impact soon.

Walsh said the district's costs for state and federally mandated student services came in over budget this year.

At the same time, the district is also on the hook to pay $2 million to SchoolCare, the nonprofit organization that manages the risk pool that administers health insurance for its employees.

Walsh said the district wants to avoid draining its reserves to prevent larger tax spikes in future years.
