In the days since a litter of five German shepards fell into the care of Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter last week, officials have determined the dogs have acquired the parvo virus and one puppy has died from the treatable canine disease, the agency announced.

"Our hearts are heavy as we share that one of the German Shepherd puppies has passed away . The remaining four are still fighting hard with our care," officials with the Ingham County Animal Control and Shelter posted on Facebook on Oct. 13. "They’re receiving supportive treatment, including Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody (CPMA), which gives them a fighting chance. So far, they’re holding steady, and our team continues to monitor them closely."
