600 people showed up fundraising a total of almost $305,000 for the Calgary Food Bank.

Doug LaVoie loves to run. So much so that he wanted to celebrate his 50th birthday, three years ago, by running 50 half-marathons in 50 weeks with his partner, Paul.

Halfway through, the couple had an idea: why not use the challenge to drum up support for the Calgary Food Bank?

“We wanted to do something charitable for the community,” Lavoie said. “And the Calgary Food Bank is an incredible organization.”

The second year, the couple invited Calgarians on Thanksgiving to join them on a half-marathon walk to raise awareness and funding for the food bank. The event was a hit – over 300 Calgarians showed up and raised $380,000 for the bank.
