LEBANON, Ohio (WXIX) - The Lebanon Fire Department is warning people about the dangers of lithium-ion batteries.

From laptops and cell phones to vapes and electric vehicles, most people are surrounded by lithium-ion batteries daily.

“Something as simple as overcharging your cellphone can cause these lithium-ion batteries to explode, and they’re in more items than you think,” explained Lebanon Fire Department fire inspector Mitch Conway. “This is why the Lebanon fire department is raising awareness to try and help keep families safe.”

Fire departments across the country are facing a new challenge as they fight more and more fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.

Conway says lithium-ion batteries are found in many electronic devices and can catch fire fairly easily.
