ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Governor Kathy Hochul has vetoed a bill that would have required food retailers and delivery platforms to disclose whether online grocery prices differ from in-store prices.
In her veto message dated Oct. 9, Hochul said that while she supports helping consumers make informed decisions, the measure would be difficult for businesses to implement and could lead to higher costs for shoppers.
The bill, Assembly Bill 1096-B, sought to amend the state’s General Business Law to require real-time disclosure from both retailers and third-party platforms when online prices were higher, lower, or the same as those in stores.
