FARGO — Christy Goulet, who leads a program that helps Indigenous youth connect with and learn about their cultural identities, was named the recipient of the Gladys Ray award during a ceremony held Monday, Oct. 13, in Fargo.

The event recognized Goulet for her work with Indigenous Legacy, a program of Cultural Diversity Resources, a nonprofit organization that aims to be an intercultural bridge connecting diverse communities in the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Goulet, whose Indigenous name is Wiishkobizi Nibi Ikwe, which means "to be sweet like the water woman," is a member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa.

In addition to helping young people, she has also worked to preserve Indigenous languages and cultures and aided in removing barriers to health care, according to nomination material
