New Delhi: The Assembly, Integration and Testing plant of Tata Advanced Systems Limited at Vemagal in Karnataka was where the first satellite in the world capable of imaging the ground at a sub-meter resolution in optical frequencies was integrated. This satellite, known as the TSAT-1A was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with the Bandwagon-1 mission on 7 April, 2024. The technology transfer and foundational components were provided by US geospatial company Satellogic. Tata and Satellogic signed an agreement to collaborate on the mission in November 2023, and within five months, the satellite was in orbit. TSAT-1A is the first in a planned Earth Observation Satellite constellation.
