HOUSTON (KIAH) — A burn ban has been issued by Fort Bend and Montgomery counties as dry conditions and extreme heat continue for southeast Texas.

The Fort Bend County Commissioners’ Court approved the ban on Monday, but it is only for all unincorporated areas of the county. Citing the continued hot weather and lack of rainfall in the forecast, the court determined that the conditions could bring a public safety hazard.

Meanwhile, Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough issued a local disaster declaration while putting a burn ban into place.

“The order I signed today prohibits all outdoor burning that is not permitted by the state and inspected by our fire marshal's office,” Keough said.

The burn ban means that residents are prohibited from burning or ordering another to burn any materials
