Governor Mike Dunleavy provided an update today on the ongoing relief effort following the recent storm in western Alaska.

As of Monday afternoon, 51 people have been rescued, while three remain unaccounted for in the village of Kwigillingok near Bethel.

Joined by leaders from state agencies, the Governor said Alaska is mobilizing every available resource to assist those affected.

"We have people flying over. We have people on the ground. We're going to get more people out on the ground to assist, just like we did with all of the other disasters that we have in the state of Alaska."

Commissioner Torrence Saxe of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs described the scene on the ground, noting the immediate needs of residents whose homes were destroyed.
