CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte City Council is moving forward on appointing nine members to the proposed transit authority, after delaying a vote last week.

Of the 27-seat authority, seven will be appointed by the council and two by the mayor. These members would oversee fund spending if a 1% sales tax increase passes in November.

Applications for the City's appointments close Monday night. As of Monday afternoon, the council had received 126 applications for the authority positions. Council members will receive all resumes on Tuesday morning.

The full council voted Monday night to proceed with the interview process after receiving an update from Councilman James Mitchell, who leads the committee overseeing the appointments. Each councilmember will get to recommend three applicants per
