REO, Ind. (WEVV) — A South Spencer High School football player experienced a frightening injury on the field Friday night, leading to an overwhelming show of community support.

During the third quarter of the game at North Central High School in Farmersburg, 15-year-old sophomore lineman Ja'quar Johnson was airlifted to Riley Hospital after suffering a serious-looking neck and head injury.

"And just a routine play happened, nothing out of the ordinary — and someone didn’t get off the field," said Dustin Sarver, Johnson's legal guardian.

Johnson recounted his experience on the way to the hospital.

"I was going into the hospital and I was looking up at this brick wall, and it started tiny and got huge," Johnson said. "I was like what’s happening — and then I got blinded by all the lights
