Catawba County courts are now paperless. As of Monday, all court filings are digital.

Since February 2023, courts across North Carolina have been switching over to digital filing. Catawba, Iredell, Burke, Caldwell, Alexander and McDowell counties were among the last 13 counties to transition to paperless files.

All 100 North Caroline counties are part of the online court system as of Monday.

Catawba County court clerks spent 10 to 14-hour days over the last few months, prepping the files to be scanned, Catawba County Clerk of Superior Court Kim Sigmon said.

Sigmon said her staff scanned thousands of files. The back of the Catawba County Clerk of Courts office was lined with large metal filing cabinets filled with court files and organized by categories such as criminal cases and estate
