Burke County Public Health announced that Jackson Stump, registered environmental health specialist, has been awarded the prestigious Stacy Covil Environmental Health Specialist of the Year Award by the North Carolina Public Health Association (NCPHA). The Stacy Covil Award recognizes a registered environmental health specialist who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in a health-related project, program or activity within the past two years.

Award recipients are selected based on their work’s significant impact at the local, regional or state level.

Stump has served with Burke County Public Health for seven years and has been instrumental in modernizing the department’s environmental health services. His work to introduce digital tools and updated equipment has increased efficiency
