Rachel Reeves is under growing pressure to launch a major overhaul of the UK’s council tax system in the Budget next month.

A number of Labour MPs wrote to the Chancellor in September urging her to scrap council tax, the Guardian reported this week.

Thirteen MPs, predominantly located in the north of England, told Reeves Labour needs to “fight back against Reform” and be bold and “embrace new ideas”.

In the letter, the MPs said the tax is “outdated, deeply regressive, and increasingly indefensible”.
