HANNIBAL (WGEM) - A woman died Monday, and the suspect is in custody at a medical facility after self-inflicted injuries, according to police.

Hannibal Police Chief Jacob Nacke said officers went to check on the welfare of a woman who had not arrived at work in the 300 block of North 6th Street when they found a 22-year-old woman stabbed to death inside a home.

Nacke said a male resident, believed to be aware of police presence, sustained self-inflicted injuries.

The man was in serious condition and was flown to a medical facility, where he remains in police custody.

According to Nacke, this was an isolated incident between the two individuals, and there is no threat to the community.

This is an ongoing investigation.
