VALPARAISO — A delay was granted for a trial that was to take place this week for a former treasurer of the Portage Junior Miss Softball league, who is accused of stealing as much as $185,000 from the organization.
Kimberley Schmick, 54, of Portage Township had reportedly told police she has since sought help for a gambling problem.
Schmick, who is charged with theft and forgery, reportedly sought the delay in hopes of working out an agreement with prosecutors.
Porter Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Clymer agreed to cancel this week's trial and set a status hearing for Dec. 17, records show.
