B.C. Premier David Eby is expected to provide an update Tuesday morning about a new medical school coming to Surrey.

The Simon Fraser University (SFU) School of Medicine will be the first of its kind to open in Western Canada in more than 50 years.

In August, the university announced it was anticipating to receive accreditation in late September.

“Once preliminary accreditation status is received, we will be allowed to launch the first admissions cycle,” SFU said, adding that it planned to begin interviewing prospective students in spring of 2026.
