One can always count on Netflix, of all the streaming services, to most often present programming that prominently features LGBTQ+ representation. They have lived up to that reputation with their current offering, “Boots,” a miniseries that premiered on Oct. 9.

“Boots” carries an additional distinction: not only are several of the series’ lead characters gay, two of those characters are played by openly gay actors — Miles Heizer and Max Parker.

It’s 1990, and fresh high school graduate Cameron (Heizer) is feeling the need to make a change from a lifetime of being picked on by bullies. His best friend Ray (Liam Oh) convinces him to sign up for the Marines with him. Though Cam is a closeted gay man at a time when being gay in the military is illegal, he lets himself be persuaded to join.
