Amid a provincewide strike, a new report shows teachers in Alberta are the most stressed in the world, and their workload is among the most demanding.

In a 2024 study of 280,000 teachers conducted in more than 50 nations, 42 per cent of Alberta participants reported experiencing stress “a lot” in their work, the highest among all participating jurisdictions, the Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) 2024 reported.

Australia was next, at 34 per cent.

Globally, the average was 19 per cent.

The results show a sharp uptick for Alberta. In 2018, just over a 25 per cent reported a “lot” of stress in their work.
