The Russell County Coroner confirmed four people were killed overnight in a Phenix City house fire.

Firefighters responded to Wehring Lane Monday evening, and the four people inside were pronounced dead just after 8:30 p.m.

Coroner Arthur Sumbry, Jr. identified the victims as Willey Chappell, 77, Sarah Chappell, 70, Vantice Williams, 40 and Paradise Williams, 6.

Sumbry said the victims were all family members.

The cause of the fire is unknown, but the cause of death is suspected to be smoke inhalation.

The bodies will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery.

The fire is being investigated by the Phenix City Police Department and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office.
