Two people have been displaced following an early morning apartment fire in downtown Chilliwack over the long weekend.
The Chilliwack Fire Department responded to a fire in the 9500 block of Rotary Street at about 1:48 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12.
When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flakes coming from a window on the first floor. They were quick to knock the flames down and contained the fire to the room it started in, according to a press release later that morning.
"A primary search confirmed that all occupants had safely evacuated the building," it read. "Two residents were assessed by BC Ambulance for smoke inhalation and transported to hospital for further evaluation.
Thirty firefighters from three halls attended, and none were injured.
