Fireworks are currently not permitted in the City of Edmonton but the restriction may be lifted just in time for Diwali (and then New Year’s 2026), which has officials issuing an alert about the approval process.

With Diwali celebrations Oct. 17 to Oct. 22, city officials released a reminder Tuesday explaining the rules surrounding fireworks and other pyrotechnics.

“Fire risk in the city remains manageable when everyone follows proper fire safety and prevention practices,” said Edmonton Fire Rescue Services (EFRS) senior communications adviser Yetunde Adebiyi. “By working together, we can create memorable experiences while preserving the beauty and integrity of our city.”
