This week may be the calm before the storm.
Fantasy football managers will be looking for injury replacements after three of the top five fantasy wide receivers to date -- Puka Nacua, Emeka Egbuka and Garrett Wilson -- went down with injuries in Week 6. In addition, it's the last of the limited bye weeks with only the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens missing in action before a devastating six teams will be off in Week 8.
So even if you don't have immediate holes to fill on your fantasy roster, a little advance planning seems essential when making claims on the waiver wire.
Fantasy football players to add for Week 7
Due to the wide variance in types of leagues and individual team needs, the players listed here include their availability rates in Yahoo leagues, which may or may not match rates on other platforms. (Suggested bid values based on $100 free agent acquisition budget for the season.)
RB Kimani Vidal, Los Angeles Chargers (31% rostered)
So maybe we didn't quite get the Chargers' running back mix exactly right last week. Vidal took advantage of Miami's porous run defense to rack up 124 yards on 18 carries. And presumed lead back Hassan Haskins? Six carries for 14 yards. Maybe he'll see more resistance vs. the Colts, but Vidal's impressive outing may tamp down the Chargers' need to bring in another running back while Omarion Hampton is out. (FAAB bid: $22)
WR Kendrick Bourne, San Francisco 49ers (35%)
Seemingly the last receiver standing in San Francisco, Bourne had another excellent game against the Buccaneers -- duplicating his 142-yard performance from a week ago. If he's still available, put Bourne down (in a dead man's town) as this week's top WR option, even though the Niners hope to get TE George Kittle back for Sunday's game against the Falcons. (FAAB bid: $15)
WR Kayshon Boutte, New England Patriots (9%)
Patriots QB Drake Maye is sharing the love with all his receivers. Last week, Stefon Diggs; this week Boutte and DeMario Douglas. Feel free to play the hot hand, and Boutte certainly qualifies after catching five passes for 93 yards and shaking his way past the secondary for two touchdowns. A similarly favorable matchup awaits at Tennessee. (FAAB bid: $10)
RB Bam Knight, Arizona Cardinals (12%)
Got this one wrong too. Though to be fair, Bam over Michael Carter wasn't anywhere close to the slam (dunk) Vidal was in his backfield pairing. Knight did have a touchdown, but it came with only 34 rushing yards and a 20-yard reception from backup QB Jacoby Brissett. And Carter can still be a factor after playing 32 snaps to Knight's 37. But if you didn't already break the bank on Carter, Knight is this week's gambit. You'll probably find him on your waiver wire under his given name, Zonovan, but we prefer his nickname when adding him to your fantasy roster, Emeril Lagasse-style. (FAAB bid: $9)
RB Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans (24%)
Might be a little late to the party in deeper leagues, but Spears made his season debut in Week 5 and saw his snap count double this past week. Still, 31 rushing yards and four catches for 19 isn't going to win any fantasy matchup singlehandedly. The Titans' league-worst offense is in shambles anyway, leading to the firing of head coach Brian Callahan on Monday. Maybe Spears can give the team a spark and Tony Pollard an occasional break, but don't count too heavily on it. (FAAB bid: $8)
WRs Sterling Shepard (5%) and Tez Johnson (1%), Tampa Bay Buccaneers
These guys have to be listed together because they're such a fantastic team. (As in comedy team.) Just check out the back-and-forth from Sunday's game, in which Johnson caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from MVP candidate Baker Mayfield and thought the fans were pushing him for the award.
In less cheerful Bucs news, the wide receiving corps sustained yet another injury -- this one to star rookie Emeka Egbuka's hamstring, which will likely keep him out for at least one game. Shepard and Johnson will have to step forward and fuel the NFL's No. 7 passing offense at Detroit. Could one of them be this week's Most Valuable Pickup? (FAAB bids: $7 each, with PPR edge to Shepard)
TE Harold Fannin, Jr., Cleveland Browns (27%)
Fannin had already carved out a role in the Browns' offense, but fellow tight end David Njoku left early Sunday with a knee injury. With rookie QB Dillon Gabriel throwing mostly short to intermediate routes, Fannin was targeted 10 times against the Steelers, catching seven for 81 yards. He could be Gabriel's primary receiver going forward. (FAAB bid: $6)
WR Josh Reynolds, New York Jets (0%)
Someone has to catch passes for the Jets, right? After Sunday's debacle vs. Denver, the answer just might be no. The Jets had an astounding minus-10 yards of passing offense in London, with Reynolds' three catches for 25 yards "leading" the way. However, top receiver Garrett Wilson hyperextended his knee in the loss and could be out for multiple weeks. If you're in need of someone, anyone at wide receiver ... (FAAB bid: $2)
