Al Horford made a surprising move this offseason, leaving the Boston Celtics just a year after winning a title. The veteran center revealed he never considered retirement and only left Boston for a Golden State opportunity. Now joining the Warriors, he cited more than money as the reason for his departure.
Horford didn’t initially expect to leave Boston. However, Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury and a reshuffling of the roster changed it all. At 39, he wanted one last serious shot at a championship, and the Celtics couldn’t offer that, having lost key pieces and facing cap constraints.
Last season, he averaged nine points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on 42.3% shooting for Boston.
