Belleville Police Chief Murray Rodd says the Police Service’s 2024 Annual Report shows a year of meaningful progress, enhanced community safety, and continued commitment to public service. Though Rodd only became Chief in the latter part of the year, he notes he has seen firsthand the resilience, professionalism, and dedication of the service’s officers, civilian staff, and volunteers. There were more than 28,500 calls in 2024, a three per cent decrease from 2023. Crimes against people, including murder, attempted murder, assault, sexual assault and robbery increased 12 per cent over the year before but the clearance rate also improved from 76 per cent to 78 per cent.
