A suspect has been taken into custody and an officer is being treated for a gunshot wound after Sandy Springs Police responded to a shots-fired call on Carol Manor Drive at 11:15 a.m. today.

The officers who arrived on the scene near Sandy Springs Middle School were told a subject was inside a home, Officer Jerrell Greene, the SSPD’s public information officer on the scene, told Rough Draft Atlanta.

When the officers went inside the home to make contact with that subject, they were met by gunfire, which they returned.

One Sandy Springs Police officer was injured when his thumb was grazed by a bullet. The officer was being treated at an area hospital.

“The suspect did barricade himself for a couple of hours,” Greene said.
