At least five people are injured after a large recycling pile caught fire in Lorton, Virginia, leading officials to close down Route 1 Tuesday afternoon, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

The two-alarm fire happened at an industrial area in the 9900 block of Richmond Highway, according to the department.

Firefighters rescued a person who was trapped in a crane at the site. It’s unclear whether that person is among those who were injured.

A spokesperson for the fire department told WTOP one of the people who was transferred to a hospital suffered life-threatening injuries. The other four suffered injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
