ZAPATA COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) - A traffic stop led to the arrest of two men on gun and drug charges after officers discovered a rifle and controlled substances in their vehicle.

The traffic stop happened on Sunday, October 12, at 1:58 p.m. at Davis Ln. and Hwy 83. During the investigation, officers discovered a firearm inside the vehicle, which one of the people in the vehicle, Noel Zamora, admitted to possessing despite having a prior felony conviction.

Additionally, the other person in the vehicle, Fernando Villarreal III, was found to have an active extraditable warrant from Hidalgo County. Authorities say he voluntarily disclosed that he possessed drug paraphernalia containing narcotics.

Both were detained and taken to the Zapata County Regional Jail. Evidence recovered from the scene
