DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A teenage girl was taken to the hospital after she was shot by a police officer when she reached for a gun in her waistband, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

DeKalb Police said officers responded to the 2000 block of Treehills Parkway after receiving a report about a person armed with a gun. When officers arrived, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) said, they encountered two teens.

Neighbors told 11Alive's Cody Alcorn that the two armed people were a teenage girl and a teenage boy, and that police shot the teenage girl. A relative said the girl is 17 years old.
