Great British Bake Off fans were divided as the Channel 4 programme unveiled its inaugural Meringue Week.

The baking competition is known for themed weeks dedicated to everything from bread to chocolate, but as Tuesday's episode (October 14) commenced, the final six contestants learned they would be testing their meringue expertise for the first time ever before judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.
