LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Tuesday morning was the kickoff of the pre-trail hearing for Rene Mendez.

Mendez is accused of killing two women back in 2023 and he happens to face a Webb County Judge.

The two women who were murdered includes 37-year-old Sylvia Ramos and 19-year-old Brianna Ramos.

At court, KGNS spoke with Sylvia’s brother, who happened to find the two women dead.

The family made it clear that Mendez was close to Sylvia for almost a decade, but police have not confirmed that connection or released a cause.

Jury selection will be made on October 20 in the 341st District Court at 8 a.m. with Judge Becky Palomo residing.
