LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently instructed the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to direct all cities and counties to remove any and all “political ideologies” from their streets.

Here in Laredo, concerns are rising regarding the removal of the “Defund the Wall” mural on Victoria Street, located directly in front of the Webb County Federal Courthouse.

Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino acknowledges the governor’s perspective, stating, “I am all for freedom of speech and public ways to express yourself, but we also have to understand that there is a public safety concern that the government is pushing out there.”

Trevino has announced plans to remove the mural, but he has not set a specific date for when it will be taken down.
