RALEIGH, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — North Carolina Republicans say they want to draw a new congressional map for the Tar Heel State. GOP Leaders described it as an effort to protect President Donald Trump’s agenda.

“I commend our legislative leaders for being proactive and taking this step,” said Matt Mercer with NCGOP.

But Democrats, like Mecklenburg County State Rep Jordan Lopez, characterized the move as an attempt to weaken voters’ influence.

“My reaction was frustration. It was anger. Honestly, I think it is pathetic,” said Lopez.
