A new report by a government-appointed panel to study Alberta’s post-secondary institutions recommends that the province implement a new funding framework, including lifting the current two per cent tuition cap.
The report, written by a five-member expert panel chaired by Canadian economist Dr Jack M. Mintz, was released on Thursday. The panel was first appointed in November 2024 to analyze the current provincial funding model and the competitiveness of post-secondary institutions.
The report stated that 90 per cent of Alberta graduates remain employed in the province one year after graduating, but also called for significant changes to address challenges within the sector and improve the quality of education received by students.
