HILLSDALE, Mich. (WILX) - A new campaign out of Hillsdale County is “taking action” when it comes to education on the effects of digital screen time and social media.

The Hillsdale County Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council is launching the Digital Wellness and Safety Campaign in October. It comes with a hope of “Encouraging screen-free living and raising awareness about safe online habits.”

Eve Goodlife, the council’s President, said after doing some research for herself, she found that “The average teenager’s screen time is seven to nine hours.”

According to Kutest Kids Early Intervention, the average daily screen time for a teenager was below seven hours in 2015, but rose to over eight hours in 2021.

Goodlife said she has even seen the trend impact her.
