The man who shot and killed a Rose State College student on campus in 2023 will spend the rest of his life in prison without parole. A jury found Brandon Morrissette, 32, guilty of first-degree murder two months ago. He returned to court on Tuesday for his sentencing.
The victim's mother, Kelly Long, said she has waited over two years to speak directly to her son's killer. Long called Morrissette a coward for shooting her RJ Long over the belief he was having an affair with Morrissette's wife at the time.
The victim's family sat through a trial in August, and now a formal sentencing. This time, Long was able to voice her thoughts to Morrissette as she read a victim impact statement in court.
