An investigation by a provincial watchdog has determined there are "no reasonable" grounds to believe any police officer committed an offence when a Chilliwack woman was seriously injured last year as she was being taken into custody.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC reported that officials have now completed their investigation into the injury of the woman while being arrested in Chilliwack outside a Chilliwack bar at about 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 23, 2024.

Police had responded to a call about "a woman who was reportedly intoxicated and getting into the driver’s seat of a vehicle in the parking lot of a bar on Gaetz Street," according to the IIO.

Officers spoke to the woman upon arrival, and "an interaction" occurred.
