As the remnants of ex-Typhoon Halong continue to impact parts of western Alaska, the community of Bethel is cleaning up — and reaching out to help others still in crisis.
In Bethel, strong winds and debris rattled homes and frightened families.
"It was a very sleepless night. I did not sleep at all. It sounded like a lot of things hitting the house... everything in my house was shaking. I was scared," said resident Victoria Sosa.
Debris from the storm was scattered throughout the area. While Bethel works to recover, residents are also turning their attention to neighboring villages like Kipnuk and Kwig, where the damage was even more severe.
"My daughter’s house was knocked off the foundation. I’m more worried about the coastal villages. Those are the ones we should worry about," said
