NEWARK, N.J. (PIX11) — Tuesday not only marked two weeks of the federal government shutdown, it was also the first day that air traffic controllers didn't get a full paycheck, even though, as essential workers, they're required to work full time.
Also on Tuesday, a member of Congress who represents North Jersey was at Newark Liberty Airport to call attention to federal airport workers' status during the shutdown.
Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a Democrat from Tenafly, said that while the country's airways are safe, that safety is compromised the longer the shutdown continues. He blamed the shutdown on Republicans in Congress.
