Skanda Sashti, a major festival dedicated to Lord Murugan, is primarily celebrated by Tamils. Ahead of the festivities, the Tamil Nadu government has declared a three-day break for schools and colleges in the Tiruchendur district. The Skanda Sashti celebration, also called 'Surasamharam,' is scheduled to begin on October 22.

The Subramaniya Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur will host a Yagasalai Puja on October 22 to begin the six-day Skanda Sashti celebration. Soorasamharam, the primary festival, is considered one of the most significant spiritual observances in Tamil Nadu and is set for October 27.
