CHARLESTON — The ownership behind the Holy City’s minor league baseball team is playing hardball against another local company sharing a similar name.
In a lawsuit filed Oct. 6 in U.S. District Court, the South Carolina Baseball Club, doing business as the Charleston RiverDogs, claims Riverdog Moving LLC is infringing on the team’s trademark.
Both logos share a kindred navy blue color scheme with a golden yellow dog, and the complaint also alleges that the spelling of Riverdog is an infringement of the term.
Michael Goldklang, general counsel for the team, said in a statement the club was left with “little choice other than to take action to protect our brand and its integrity.”
