The Twin City Development Foundation announced a donation of $400,000 to help alleviate the debt facing Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools.
Robert Clark, the board of directors of the foundation, announced the donation at Tuesday's school board meeting.
Clark said the donation will be paid in two installments of $200,000.
"This is a moment that calls for leadership and collective action," Clark said.
He said he hoped the donation would encourage other foundations and community members to step up with donations to help the school pay off its $37 million debt.
Interim Superintendent Catty Moore thanked the foundation, calling public schools the bedrock of communities.
