HOULTON, Maine — Houlton is facing cascading leadership challenges following the arrest of Town Manager Cameron Clark and the subsequent resignation of five town councilors.

Councilor Eileen McLaughlin is one of the two remaining councilors trying to rebuild the council.

"We need to move forward for this town," she said.

Clark was recently charged with domestic violence assault and felony victim tampering, according to court documents. The victim tampering charge against Clark is a Class B felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court documents and an affidavit from the Aroostook County Sheriff's Department allege that on Sept. 12, Clark repeatedly shoved a woman he had invited to his home off his porch and into the bushes. During an emergency council meeting
