About 100 students and community members walked beyond the curtains onto the Power Center for the Performing Arts stage Wednesday evening to witness the final of seven “ Nigamon/Tunai ” performances held between Oct. 2 and Oct. 8. Canadian artist Émilie Monnet and Colombian artist Waira Nina produced the ritual-like performance of sight, sound, smell and touch to highlight the growing impacts of resource depletion on Indigenous American communities.

Viewers entered a dimly-lit stage covered by ponds, leafy plants and a smoky haze while performers gestured toward small stools and cushions spread out around the space. Forest and breathing sounds began playing from speakers as the two artists moved silently around the stage pouring water into gold vases and a large wooden boat.
