RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The “Big Beautiful Bill” which passed in Washington last summer made deep cuts into Medicaid spending as well as eliminated subsidies to the Affordable Care Act.

Both programs are popular here in Nevada.

“Medicaid, they were suggesting, possibly over a billion dollars lost to the state of Nevada,” says Fred Lokken, Professor of Political Science at Truckee Meadows Community College.

Many Nevada lawmakers knew the ax was going to fall, and warned about it during their legislative session earlier in the year.

The day is approaching, and many speculate, if Governor Lombardo calls a special session next month, this issue will be part of the proclamation.
